Brrrr....... It's cold out there!
Monday was such a beautiful warm day; we spent most of it outside laying mulch for our earliest summer crops and getting our veggies already in the ground covered up. Less than 12 hours later and it was, literally, freezing! I must admit, I am not a huge fan of cold weather. But, hopefully it is killing some bugs and we will see at least one good thing from this arctic blast. So, my last two days have been spent mostly inside: working on tax stuff, rendering lard for soap (and biscuits, and bread, and tortillas, and pie, and just for frying things in general), sewing a bit and standing in front of the heater a lot.
Oh, and this...
In my defense, I had a really strong desire to take pictures of our vegetables today. Cold days make me want to update records and our blog. The only problem with cold days is the lack of photo ops, which explains the
cabbage kale patch kid.
It started last week. Our market manager from the South Durham market just had onesies printed and asked us to take some pictures of the wolfe-man in one. So, I added a carrot for good measure.
He seems to like it.
The garlic scepter...not so much.
But, aside from dressing my baby up like a winter vegetable, I am working on plans for the 2014 season. The greenhouse is completely full of beautiful starts and as soon as we get some nice weather for a few days they will be going in the ground! We will be at the South Durham market this Saturday from 9 to noon, unfortunately, the cute baby will be staying home.
